LGBTQ+ Families

Every Family Deserves to Exist

Alpha Fidelis has helped LGBTQ+ individuals and couples become parents through egg donation and surrogacy. We are proud to serve you — no qualifications, no exceptions.

Our Commitment

Inclusive, Affirming,
Experienced

LGBTQ+ families have always been part of what we do at Alpha Fidelis. We do not treat same-sex couples or single LGBTQ+ parents as a special case — we treat you as what you are: intended parents who want a child and deserve the same quality of care and support as anyone else.

California is one of the best places in the world for LGBTQ+ family formation. The law is clear, the courts are supportive, and pre-birth orders mean both parents are on the birth certificate before the baby leaves the hospital — no adoption, no second-parent petition required.

Our team includes coordinators with personal experience as LGBTQ+ parents and long-standing relationships with reproductive attorneys who specialize in LGBTQ+ family law.

01

Gay Male Couples

Two Dads, One Dream

Gay male couples need both an egg donor and a gestational surrogate to have a baby. Alpha Fidelis coordinates both simultaneously, so your journey moves forward as efficiently as possible. Many couples also choose to create embryos using both partners' sperm (split fertilization) to maximize their options.

  • Initial consultation — discuss whether one or both partners' sperm will be used
  • Select an egg donor from our global screened network
  • Egg retrieval and fertilization — embryos created in IVF lab
  • Optional PGT-A genetic testing to select healthy embryos
  • Match with a pre-screened gestational surrogate
  • Legal agreements protecting both dads' parental rights
  • Embryo transfer to surrogate — pregnancy monitored
  • California pre-birth order — both dads on birth certificate
Many of our gay male couples choose to fertilize eggs with both partners' sperm in the same cycle, creating two sets of embryos. This gives you maximum genetic options and flexibility for future sibling journeys.

Lesbian Couples

Two Moms, Many Paths

Lesbian couples have several options depending on their goals. You can use one partner's eggs with donor sperm, or use reciprocal IVF — where one partner provides the eggs and the other carries the pregnancy. We help you think through which path is right for your family.

  • Decide between traditional IVF, reciprocal IVF, or egg donation
  • Reciprocal IVF: Partner A's eggs, fertilized with donor sperm, transferred to Partner B
  • Standard IVF: One partner provides eggs and carries the pregnancy
  • Egg donation: If neither partner wishes to use her own eggs
  • Gestational surrogate option if carrying is not possible or desired
  • Legal agreements and co-parent rights established before birth
Reciprocal IVF (also called co-IVF or partner IVF) allows both partners to be biologically involved — one provides the egg, the other carries the baby. This is one of our most requested arrangements for lesbian couples.

Single Intended Parents

Building Your Family Independently

Whether you are a single man or a single woman, you deserve to be a parent. Single intended parents make up a growing share of the families we serve. We guide you through every option with the same care and attention we give to couples.

  • Single women: IVF with donor sperm using your own eggs, or egg donation if needed
  • Single men: Egg donor + gestational surrogate (same path as gay male couples)
  • Sperm or egg donor selection from licensed banks or known donors
  • All legal, medical, and coordination support fully included
  • Pre-birth order establishes you as sole legal parent
Single parenthood through surrogacy or egg donation is completely legal in California. You will be the sole legal parent listed on the birth certificate.

Transgender & Non-Binary Individuals

Your Family, Your Way

We welcome transgender and non-binary intended parents and have experience navigating the specific legal and medical considerations involved. Our team works with specialists in transgender reproductive medicine to ensure your journey is both affirming and medically sound.

  • Consultation with a coordinator familiar with transgender reproductive options
  • Referrals to fertility specialists experienced in trans medicine
  • Egg or sperm preservation options discussed based on transition status
  • Legal parentage documentation tailored to your situation
  • Surrogacy and/or egg donation coordinated based on your needs
California law fully supports LGBTQ+ parental rights. We work with reproductive attorneys who specialize in LGBTQ+ family formation to ensure your legal protections are in place.
Legal Protections

California Law
Protects You

California has some of the most comprehensive LGBTQ+ parental rights laws in the world. Here is what that means for your journey.

Pre-Birth Orders in California

California grants pre-birth orders to all intended parents — regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status. Your name(s) appear on the birth certificate before your baby is born. No adoption required.

Both Partners on the Birth Certificate

For same-sex couples using a gestational surrogate, both partners can be listed as legal parents on the birth certificate from day one — whether or not either is genetically related to the child.

No "Second-Parent" Adoption Needed

In California, a surrogacy pre-birth order eliminates the need for a second-parent adoption. Both parents are legally established before the baby leaves the hospital.

International Recognition

California parentage judgments are recognized in most countries. Our attorneys have experience helping LGBTQ+ international parents navigate citizenship, passport, and visa documentation for their children.

Genetic Connection Not Required

California law does not require a genetic connection between intended parents and the child for a pre-birth order. You are the legal parents because you commissioned the pregnancy — not because of genetics.

Anonymous Donor Agreements

All egg and sperm donor agreements clearly terminate the donor's parental rights before any procedure begins — providing full legal security to LGBTQ+ intended parents.
