Cost Questions

Common Cost Questions

Do I pay everything upfront?

No. Costs are paid in stages. The agency coordination fee is due at the start, and surrogate compensation is released from escrow in monthly installments throughout the journey. IVF and medical fees are paid directly to the clinic per their billing schedule.

What is escrow and why is it required?

Escrow is a third-party account managed by a neutral administrator. Before any medical procedures begin, all surrogate compensation is funded into escrow. This protects both you and the surrogate — she has certainty that funds are available, and you have certainty that disbursements follow the legal agreement.

Are there financing options?

Yes. Several companies specialize in fertility financing, including CapexMD, Future Family, and Prosper Healthcare Lending. Some IVF clinics also offer payment plans. We can connect you with resources at your consultation.

Is surrogacy compensation taxable?

Surrogate compensation is generally not taxable income for the surrogate under IRS guidelines, and your payments to escrow are not deductible for intended parents. However, tax situations vary — we recommend consulting a tax advisor.

What if the first transfer fails?

IVF transfer costs are typically quoted per cycle. If the first transfer does not result in pregnancy, a frozen embryo transfer (FET) is usually $3,000–$5,000 at the clinic. This is separate from agency fees, which cover the journey from match to birth regardless of the number of transfers needed.

Are there hidden fees?

We do not have hidden fees. At your initial consultation, we provide a complete, itemized cost estimate based on your specific situation. Some costs — such as surrogate insurance, medical complications, or additional procedures — can vary, and we explain the potential range for each item upfront.
